10 Hot Cybersecurity Companies With Midmarket Solutions
These security vendors have some uniqueness to their offerings.
Cybersecurity solutions abound and many share some of the same capabilities: intrusion protection and detection, identity and access management (IAM), security information and event management (SIEM), incident response, and more.
While these are all crucial components to any company’s cybersecurity stack, there are security vendors that have platforms that take a unique approach to these security capabilities, in one way or another.
Here are 10 hot cybersecurity companies that not only have a unique take on security but also feature solutions that are appropriate for midmarket organizations (listed A-Z):
Anima People
Founded by a psychologist, Anima People uses a “socio-technical” approach to security with its AI-based platform PsychSec. The platform collects data across an organization through surveys or integration with other platforms like Slack or Teams, and then assesses human behavior-related risks to prevent cybersecurity incidents like insider threats.
Cogility
Cogility, a tech firm known for its flagship continuous intelligence platform Cogynt, announced a new service this year, TacitRed, which it describes as a "turnkey, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution that automatically maps an organization's external attack surface and monitors connections and threat activity between its digital presence, cyber adversaries, and third-party entities."
With TacitRed, organizations can monitor the security posture of third parties they may partner with, making the platform uniquely positioned to help secure the supply chain.
Coro
Coro’s unique in that it is truly designed for midmarket organizations that may have lean security teams and restrictive budgets. Coro’s latest platform, Coro 3.0, allows security teams to build a cybersecurity stack consisting of several modules into a single interface, using a single agent, and with one data engine.
Coro was named to the 2024 MES Midmarket 100, a yearly list of top tech companies for the midmarket.
Illumio
Illumio offers not just zero-trust security, but zero-trust segmented security –a unique twist on zero trust.
Gary Barlet, federal chief technology officer at Illumio, told MES Computing to think of Illumio’s zero-trust segmentation as a checkers board.
“[You have] pieces on it and you put each piece inside a separate square,” he said. “You have to decide what is allowed in which square.”
Illumio’s offering creates "ring fences" around each individual application, sometimes around each server. The platform can then decide what's allowed into the network and out.
While there are other solutions offering zero-trust segmentation, they are from larger vendors like Akamai and Cisco and may be more complex to implement and manage for midmarket organizations.
KnowBe4
KnowBe4 is unique in that it focuses on the human side of cybersecurity. The company offers a platform that provides security awareness training, security coaching, security orchestration, anti-phishing protection, and customizable compliance training.
KnowBe4 also offers a host of free, online tools including weak password and domain spoofing testers.
Protect AI
AI security is a growing security niche. Protect AI offers artificial intelligence application security. The company’s uniqueness lies with its “bug bounty” community that finds vulnerabilities in tools used to create AL and ML applications and is released every month to the public.
Rubrik
Rubrik, which provides zero-trust data security, is unique in how it keeps innovating. It recently announced a partnership with storage company Pure Storage to create a security solution that combines data security with business continuity. Most recently, the company unveiled data security management support for Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Semperis
Semperis specializes in protection against identity attacks. The company recently launched its unique Lightning Identity Runtime Protection platform, which uses machine learning models for identity threat protection and response.
The goal of Lightning Identity Runtime Protection is to detect pattern-based attacks, Semperis’ VP of products, Darren Mar-Elia, told MES Computing. These threats occur “when attackers are trying to be stealthy about performing activities that eventually lead to some kind of privilege escalation,” Mar-Elia said.
Tenable
Tenable is a cybersecurity company that has recently added new capabilities to its security platforms: Tenable Vulnerability Management, Tenable One, and Tenable Cloud Security. The new features are vulnerability intelligence and exposure response. Tenable specializes in exposure management and was named to MES Computing's 2024 MES Midmarket 100 list, which recognizes forward-thinking vendors that target midsize customers with products and services designed to address the midmarket's unique needs, adding to Tenable’s uniqueness in delivering enterprise-level security to the midmarket.
Hornet Security
Hornet Security’s Vade platform is unique in its approach to email security. It’s AI-driven, data-centric security platform employs machine learning that is constantly analyzing textual, contextual, and visual elements in emails and web pages to block threats. The platform also uses predictive analytics to analyze email, URLs, webpages, and file behavior.
