Neovera Ramps Up Midmarket Offerings With Latest Acquisition

Managed IT service provider Neovera has announced that it has acquired Emagined Security, a security firm offering virtual CISO, compliance services, penetration testing and more.

The Reston, Va.-based company said in a statement that the acquisition allows it to expand its security operations Center footprint, now mostly on the East Coast, across the U.S.

Along with another recent acquisition, that of 10-D Security in August 2023, by acquiring Emagined, Neovera places itself in a position to offer amplified security services to customers in its sweet spot – mid-sized organizations in highly regulated industries. Among the services it provides to customers are lifecycle management, cybersecurity, incident response and environment monitoring.

"Organizations in highly regulated industries like government, healthcare and banking are constantly under attack given the wealth of sensitive data they manage and process daily. The challenge for many midmarket organizations in these sectors is that they just can't keep up with today's cybersecurity and compliance demands," said Neovera CEO Scott Weinberg, in a statement to MES Computing.

Midmarket organizations in regulated industries do have specific challenges over those in less regulated fields. Businesses in regulated industries are more subject to cyber attacks, for instance. From 2022 to 2023, cyberattacks in the health care vertical increased 136 percent. The financial sector is the second-most vulnerable. Both industries are highly regulated and have tons of customer data, making them honeypots for hackers and forcing businesses in those sectors to keep up with ever-changing and rigorous compliance requirements.

Some even argue that security professionals in these sectors spend so much time trying to satisfy regulations and being in compliance that they have less time to deal with cyber incidents.

In addition to helping expand its SOC presence, the acquisition will help amplify the existing services Neovera provides its customers, Weinberg said.

"Another helpful offering Neovera provides with the acquisition of Emagined Security is a virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO). These experts provide cybersecurity guidance and put advanced controls in place like an in-house CISO but on a part-time basis. Many midmarket organizations run into challenges like limited budgets, compliance burdens, rapid growth or transformation, or advanced project needs where vCISOs can come in and set these teams up for success," he added.

"This is the perfect fit for Emagined Security," said David Sockol, CEO, Emagined Security, in a news release. "After careful consideration, we believe our capabilities and team align seamlessly with Neovera's vision. By joining forces with Neovera, we will provide organizations in highly regulated industries with advanced, customized security services designed to meet the unique challenges of their industry and protect their sensitive data."
