Zuckerberg Announces Big Additions With New Version Of Meta AI
Mark Zuckerberg took to Facebook Live on Thursday to announce the release of a new version of Meta AI, the company's AI assistant across its apps and on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in the U.S.
Meta AI has been upgraded with the Llama 3 model which is open source.
"Today we are releasing our first set of Llama 3 models at 8 billion and 70 billion parameters," he said in his video.
According to Zuckerberg, Meta AI will be integrated into search boxes across Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram. The company also rolled out a new website, meta.ai.
The Facebook founder shared some other details:
Meta AI is integrated with real-time knowledge from Google and Bing right into its answers.
It can create animations and high-quality images "so fast that it actually generates and updates the images for you in real time as you're typing," Zuckerberg said.
He also touched on developments with Llama 3. He said releases are coming soon that bring "multimodality" and "bigger context windows" to the model.
"We're also training a larger dense model with more than 400 billion parameters," he added.
Zuckerberg also touted the open-source model.
"The tech industry has shown … open source leads to better, safer, and more secure products and faster innovation and a healthier market," he said.
These models, he continued, "have the potential to unlock progress in fields like health care, science and more."
"We believe that Meta is now the most intelligent AI assistant that you can freely use," he said.
In a blog post, Meta said that Llama 3 "will soon be available on AWS, Databricks, Google Cloud, Hugging Face, Kaggle, IBM WatsonX, Microsoft Azure, NVIDIA NIM, and Snowflake, and with support from hardware platforms offered by AMD, AWS, Dell, Intel, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm."
