Trouble Managing Digital Certificate Sprawl? There's A Mid-Market Solution For That

Keeping track of and managing digital certificates can be a nightmare for IT departments. Certs need to be set up, configured, and renewed before they expire or are revoked.

Moreover, certificates are essential because they create secure and trusted connections. As more devices and users (hybrid, remote and on-site) access the network – the number of certificates needed typically increases.

Expiring certificates can pose a real IT headache and can also lead to business outages.

Then there is the issue of keeping up with "ephemeral certificates." These are short-lived certificates that expire in about five minutes, according to SSH Academy. They offer more robust security, supporting zero-trust and the Just-in-Time authentication methodologies. As more organizations adopt ephemeral certificates, there becomes an even greater challenge with certificate management.

These trends translate into more demand for certificate management solutions. According to one industry report, the global Digital Certificate Management market is projected to reach $1083.6 million in 2029, an increase from $548.2 million in 2022.

Sectigo is a company that offers certificate lifecycle management (CLM). Of course, there are other certificate management solutions available: Fortinet, DigiCert and Venafi are a few. Bigger players like IBM, Google and AWS also offer their own solutions.

However, Sectigo has tailored a solution, it says, to fit the needs of smaller and mid-sized organizations.

This week, Sectigo announced the launch of SCM Pro, a solution the company says brings "the robustness of enterprise CLM to SMEs (small and mid-sized enterprises)."

Some key features in SCM Pro include:

- Automated certificate management via a single view of all public certificates throughout the network

- Simplified deployment

- Customized workflows

- Annual certificate subscription that provides "provides unlimited public-domain-validated (DV) certificates with automated provisioning and management."

"Whereas automated CLM solutions were traditionally aimed at larger organizations, the proliferation of digital certificates and PKI use cases have led to increasing CLM needs for small and large enterprises alike," said Özgün Pelit, senior industry analyst at consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, said in a statement. "With its highly-productized offering and flexible pricing models, Sectigo has greatly extended CLM to smaller organizations, eliminating on-premise effort and additional professional services."

"We recognize that customers can no longer manage digital certificates manually, and partners like Sectigo allow us to continue to provide cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions that make it easier for them to keep their business safe," Ricardo Resnik, CEO at Multipoint Group, said in a statement.
